I'm not positive, but I think the home team has the option of choosing which colors they want to wear. 90% of the time, home teams wear darks because of tradition. However, the Skins may have had some personal reason for wanting to wear their lights.
I think the Steelers were the home team in the Super Bowl (I don't have time to research that fact right now). I know they chose to wear their whites because they were the away team on the entire way to Detroit, and Ford Field wasn't Heinz. Sometimes, the team just feels like changing the norm, for superstition, respect, whatever...
i'll ask this on your page... why were the steelers wearing they're home black uni's on saturday night???
