I was a huge Lego fan back in the day. I'm also a huge Pirates fan, so right now, I'm drifting back to a time when the Pirates were still good, and Lego-building consumed most of my day. We visited the Lego phenomenon back during the toy's 50th birthday. My thoughts:


I grew outta Legos when they started making those massive sets where you could build like a castle or interactive building of some sort. I was used to the simple sets where your imagination dictated what you built. I could build a ridiculous stick/tower.


Yeah, I think it would be safe to say that I wouldn't have the energy to build a scale model of PNC Park, even though the stadium is superbly badass.

Wiener Dogs Are So Much Cooler Than Chargers Fans

Wow, I really don't know what to do with myself now that the Steelers have a game this weekend. Last weekend had me all sorts of pumped up for football, only to remember that we had a bye. I watched some football, found out who we were going to play, and immediately started thinking of Steelers/Chargers scenarios. But now the game is almost here. We could count down in hours if we really wanted to.

I'm out of the loop, though. It seems like it's been awhile since we saw the Steelers play, probably because all we've had to survive on is Ben Roethlisberger's concussion and why the hell he was bowling after the injury.

Then, my friend TheStarterWife reminded me about something totally sweet.

Only fairies cheer for the Chargers!

Come on now...we have some ridiculous characters at Heinz Field, but you wouldn't make it past the main gate without getting a royal beatdown if you wore fairy wings to the game.

So I trekked over to Youtube to find at least one thing that was cooler than fairy Chargers fans. The end result...wiener dogs are way cooler than fairy Chargers fans. Evidence is below.

Sunday Needs To Get Here

Dude, I can't wait much longer. Fewt-ball season began last night, and now my appetite for the NFL has been severely whetted.

The only thing that can sustain me is the roar from Heinz Field and the sea of Terrible Towels. Those are all for you, Myron.

Sunday Steelers kickoff is only days away, which means tomorrow will have a rare weekend post here at PSaMP, and it'll be cross-published at OFTOT. Our pregame show/analysis should be up at some point, so check back frequently. We don't have a set time or anything. We're bloggers...come on. So send your show title ideas to either me or Cotter. You guys have sucked about as much as us, and we still haven't zeroed in on a choice.

Heinz Field Causes Head Trauma

This was on Deadspin two days ago, but I hadn't found the time to post it here. I was too busy worrying about Ryan Mundy, watching Steelers fans tackle the Octa-Bong and resting on my birthday laurels.

Still, this is a typical skateboarder/disaster video that one would typically find in Ufford's work. However, the setting for the epic head-slam is what gets me. Don't focus on the skateboarder, and you'll see that the kid is all up on the North Shore, trying to kill the area around the Carnegie Science Center and Heinz Field.

Now, I've never been much of a skateboarder. I tried as a kid, but falling sucks way too much, so I gave it up after two boards and countless bruises. I gotta say, though, even if I could thrash with the best of them, the mere sight of Heinz Field would distract me long enough in mid-air to cause extensive damage to the back of my skull as well.

Gah, that's a rough video. I hate skateboard-wreck videos, especially back in the first installment of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for original Playstation when you unlocked the extra highlight reels, only to be ambushed by the spot clips of dude's breaking their ankles. I'm gonna vom just thinking about it.

Steelers Fans Rule

With a fervor only Milwaukee Brewers fans can truly appreciate, Steelers fans once again show why rooting for the Black and Gold is so much fun. That reason, of course, is the group beer bong.

Sure, that Brewers beer bong might have had more hoses, but all you got was a picture, and those jerks easily could've been nursing their beer. With video technology firmly focused on this group of Pittsburghers, we get to see one of these bad boys in action. Older dudes were taking one to the face.

Next time someone (probably from Cleveland) tries to hate on you for supporting the Steelers, show 'em this video and proceed to call them and their fellow fans any group of insults you like. I prefer Asshat, Turd Burglar or Clown Shoes. Don't limit yourselves to my choices, though.

Arena Development Delayed

Still clinging to the last few seasons of the majestic Civic Arena? Well, you'll have at least one extra season to keep those memories.

Originally supposed to open in time for the 2009-10 hockey season, the HOK Sport-designed, multi-purpose Hill District (that's a lot of words) arena will not open until the 2010-11 season.

The last thing the Penguins wanted was a half-assed job in a limited time frame. Spokesman Tom McMillan said:

"The right thing to do is to do it the right way," he said. "The matter of a few more months will enable us to do that."

Oh well. I love the Civic Arena (I do not call it Mellon). Yet, there comes a time when landmarks need to fall. I was emotional when Three Rivers went down. However, the end result of that implosion was the creation of the finest stadiums in the MLB and NFL.

I'll probably get all choked up when the Igloo vanishes, too, but the team needs it to happen. Just look at the artist's depiction of the new arena. Its gonna be sick. Plus, with the extra few months, the arena can put on some concerts before the Pens actually play a game. Hell, Heinz Field did just that with 'N Sync. Maybe we can score a Backstreet Boys reunion tour prior to Sid and Co. taking the ice.

Penguins Choose Arena Design Firm

What? Penguins news!

Its been awhile, but PSaMP felt it was time to finally move past the disheartening playoff loss to the Senators, and give an update on your Pittsburgh Penguins. Plus, I wanted an excuse to post this badass Pens' logo from the '68 season. Its simplicity makes it a PSaMP favorite. Much better than that triangular deal that they tried to pass off as a logo in the '90s. I couldn't stand that thing.

The Pens have decided on a design firm for the new multi-purpose arena that was at the center of our collective attention just 2 months ago. HOK Sport has been given the green light, and has the awesome task of building another beautiful Pittsburgh sports arena.

HOK designed PNC Park and Heinz Field, which both opened in 2001. If the new Penguins arena is half as nice as the other 2 HOK-designed Pittsburgh sports complexes, then Penguins fans have nothing to worry about. The arena has a tentative price tag of $290 million. It should be open for the start of the '09-'10 season.

The best part of the deal is that HOK is based in Kansas City, the area that desperately wanted the Pens prior to the new 30-year agreement with the city of Pittsburgh. HOK not only is centered in KC, but also designed the Sprint Center, the arena that was offering the Pens a rent-free deal. Yet another kick in the teeth to all those hopeful fans at My KC Penguins. Great job getting all worked up for nothing, ya weirdos.

I can't wait to see what the good people at HOK have in store for all us Pens fans. After seeing their works for the Buccos and Stillers, PSaMP is eager to witness an arena that is good enough for Darren McCord in Sudden Death 2.
