More Birds are Steelers Fanboys

Back in July, I told you about this one bird that was a Steelers fanboy. That bird should totally get together with this one and discuss some Steelers stuff.

Actually, this one is demonic and creepy. If I was walking through the house in the dark and that voice started popping up, I'd most likely poo and pee wherever I was standing.

Note to Steelers fan bird owners...someone make your bird mimic Myron Cope or Bill Hillgrove, or at least something that doesn't sound like the kid from The Shining.

Sunday Needs To Get Here

Dude, I can't wait much longer. Fewt-ball season began last night, and now my appetite for the NFL has been severely whetted.

The only thing that can sustain me is the roar from Heinz Field and the sea of Terrible Towels. Those are all for you, Myron.

Sunday Steelers kickoff is only days away, which means tomorrow will have a rare weekend post here at PSaMP, and it'll be cross-published at OFTOT. Our pregame show/analysis should be up at some point, so check back frequently. We don't have a set time or anything. We're bloggers...come on. So send your show title ideas to either me or Cotter. You guys have sucked about as much as us, and we still haven't zeroed in on a choice.

Myron Cope Is An Asteroid

File this in the "Badass Department."

Okay, so I made that department up, but if it was real, this would be the first entry.

The International Astronomical Union has officially named an asteroid after late Steelers announcer Myron Cope. Far out (sorry)!

The asteroid orbits the sun in between Mars and Jupiter, so you or I will never see it. However, you can sleep better tonight knowing that 7835 Myroncope is flying around in space somewhere.

Myron Cope-steroid is only about 3 miles wide, making it a tiny body that will never come close enough to Earth.

Still, cool acknowledgement!

There are no other words to describe the passing of Myron Cope.

He was family, even if you never met him. We invited him in for so many weekend get-togethers, enjoyed his off-beat antics, and loved him like a father or grandfather.

He will be missed on so many different levels.

Mike Lange Is Coming Back!...To Radio

Scratch my back with a hacksaw, Mike Lange is returning to the Penguins. I know this is semi-old news, but I needed to touch on it.

I'll be the first to admit that Steigy and Errey combined don't make up half of Mike Lange. Mike Lange is Pittsburgh Penguins.

I was stunned when he was fired from FSN Pittsburgh prior to last season. He signed on to broadcast the radio-version of the games shortly after. Honestly, that was a horrible move by FSN. There was even an online petition to keep Mike Lange.

In Pittsburgh, we have the Steelers, Pirates and Penguins. Each team has had a signature announcer who basically defined the team. The Pirates had Bob Prince. The Steelers had Yoi-tacular Myron Cope. FSN denied Mik Lange a chance to continue his claim as "Voice of the Penguins." The guy called games for 30 years, and is a Hall of Famer (he won the Foster Hewitt Award in 2001).

I'm happy that Lange will be back, at least in radio-only version. Many a Steelers fan would mute the television to hear Myron Cope's radio broadcast, and I tended to do the same with the Pens games last year. Steigy and Errey aren't all that bad, but I'd rather listen to Mike Lange and Phil "The Old Two-Niner" Bourque. Plus, Steigy and Errey comment on Jordan Staal's "long stick" way too much.

Lange's deal is for one year, and he said he hasn't entertained offers to join television crews elsewhere. Lange was hoping for a multi-year deal, but plans to just take it one year at a time.

Its unfortunate that FSN "beat him like a rented mule."
