Greg Lloyd Fights Kids, But DID NOT Put A Gun In His Son's Mouth

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Greg Lloyd just wants to be around his kids. And he'll muss up some punk karate kid along the way if he has to (there must be an infinite amount of terror in the mind of the kid holding the yellow cushion).

Sure, we all know Greg Lloyd is a Martial Arts instructor. Now, the Atlanta-Journal Constitution wants to know what he's up to...at this very moment.

Obviously, still teaching Tae Kwon Do. I enjoy the fact that his students must refer to him as "Master Lloyd." And the article delivers one of the best lines in journalism history, no matter how many times it is reproduced in however-many newspapers/websites:

Greg Lloyd Jr. was 15 at the time authorities alleged that his father shoved the gun in his mouth as punishment for his poor grades.

Master Lloyd is on a mission to let the world know that he's not the monster that people make him out to be. Like, that gun-in-the-son's-mouth incident? False. All lies from a scorned wife during the nasty-divorce-proceedings.

Now, I don't know if I necessarily believe that Lloyd's wife was spouting off fake truths just to gain the upper hand in the divorce. I mean, putting a gun in your son's mouth because he got bad grades is just something that we, as Steelers fans, would just expect out of Greg Lloyd. It's not so much a "Holy shit, that's nuts" type of happening. It's more of a "Haha...Greg Lloyd WOULD do that" type of deal.

Lloyd is also saying that his ex-wife stole $80 grand and a $12,000 Rolex.

It might be most concerning that the ex refused to comment in the story. Maybe Greg Lloyd IS telling the truth! In his words, all he wants is to have a relationship with his children, whom, his ex has taken away.

Then again, maybe Greg Lloyd also kicked that kid in half right after the picture was taken. Because Greg Lloyd is fun.

Today's MPotD is another in the line of shoddy cell phone images. This is another mini pony that lives on a farm near my school. I sometimes like to think that the mini ponies know where I go to school, and live near it just so I can see them and say "Sweet!" Sorry about the quality, but this mini pony was way too cool to pass up. I know of at least 2 more sweet farms in the immediate vicinity of my campus, so if I remember, I'll try to document them.

Helping People Rules UPDATED

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Another Friday...another half-assed post because my mind is focused directly on the weekend.

Awesome win by the Penguins...despite the fact that the Islanders announcers are the most biased I've heard recently. Highlights are below...I love every time Georges Laraque scores. The video doesn't show his trademark "Jump-Into-The-Glass" celebration, though.

You can find me elsewhere on the web today, and I'll use this post merely as a connecting flight, of sorts.

Last week, I took part in One For The Other Thumb's inaugural spinoff of SI's Pop Culture Grid. I'm back again this week. Check out my answers to cool questions.

Also, my good buddy Sean is going to a Devils/Flyers game in Philly this weekend. He asked a buncha cool bloggers who he should root for, seeing as how they're both division rivals of the Pens...and the outcome of this game could totally alter who the Pens play in the postseason.

UPDATE: My sister, Sheena Beaston, has a brand new interview with yours truly. Now, she runs a music blog, but blood rules allow for a sportsblogger to be interviewed on a music blog.

Make sure to check out Sean's post, Cotter's Pop Culture Grid and Sheena's interview as well.

Pens game highlights should be under these words.

The Arizona Cardinals Are The Pittsburgh Xplosion

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Yes, you read that right. I did just compare a tiny local basketball team to an NFL squad. If you can call the Arizona Cardinals an NFL squad, that is.

Recently, I heard that Arizona had picked up former Steeler Clark Haggans. I loved Clark Haggans. Completely respect everything he brought to our organization, but there wasn't cap space to sign him, and LaMarr Woodley is waiting in the wings.

So he went to Arizona, which is basically the football equivalent of Pittsbugh's basketball team...the Xplosion. In that I mean that local castoffs are forced to play for these teams when there is no other option.

First, the Xplosion. Not only did the team boast local star (WV is close enough to be called local) Kevis Pittsnogle last season, but this year added former Pitt "greats" John DeGroat, Antonio Graves and Carl Krauser. Krauser was even mentioned to be an NBA prospect. That turned out beautifully.

The Cardinals subscribe to a similar theory, mainly because their coach used to work in the Steel City. After taking the Arizona job, Whisenhunt added Jerame Tuman, Sean Morey...and now Haggans. This is in addition to local kid Steve Breaston and Pitt standout Larry Fitzgerald.

Haggans played the free agency field...and was unable to garner an offer. Honestly, its a crime...and Arizona just got a good LB on the cheap. By signing Haggans, though, Arizona adds to their Xplosion-esque mentality of signing the Pittsburgh kids out of familiarity. Nothing against Tuman or Morey...but I doubt that they had multiple offers on the table at the onset of their signing with the Cards.

However...only best wishes go to Clark Haggans. And to the Xplosion...what...the Xplosion were just eliminated from the playoffs? That's more than the Cards can claim, though.

This Band Sucks

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

You can hate me for this post. I'll allow it.

I don't quite have the energy to offer my opinions on anything right now. I had (perhaps) too much fun last night, overslept...rushed to work...and am exhausted.

Sure, I could talk about the Penguins clinching a playoff berth, or continue the discussion of Dan Rooney's poorly-worded defense of James Harrison, or the fact that the Pirates will begin their season without major free-agent B.K. Kim.

Instead, enjoy this video. It has nothing to do with anything, save for the fact that the band's name is Steeler. I never heard of this "band" before. I never want to hear of it again.

Verron Haynes Likes To Bounce Checks

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Stupid Verron and your flashy cars.

It appears that (former?) Steeler Verron Haynes sucks at paying bills (he was released, but still appears on the team's roster). He's being sued by A&L Motor Sales in Monroeville for deciding against paying for a 2001 Aston Martin. God, I'd love to be rich and (quasi-) famous.

Verron obviously likes to live beyond his oft-injured-barely-a-third-down-back means, paying only $7,650 on a $67,500 luxury car.

What in the hell is Verron Haynes buying that he's bouncing three checks to a car dealership? Has he already blown through his entire contract?

Oh...obviously hyperbaric chambers (image NOT Photoshopped/MS Painted by me):

Poor Excuse For A Post

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Several posts you should read...because I said so.

Good win by Pitt yesterday. The 18-0 run in the first half was awe-inspiring. I want to believe in this team so bad, and could conceivably win any matchup presented to them. However, I've been hurt by this team too often in the Jamie Dixon/Ben Howland-era to get my hopes up.
Apparently, Pitt won because they rank #6 on Endless Simmer's Top Drunk Food by NCAA Tourney school. The South Side Slope (pictured above) from Fatheads boosted Pitt's standing. Primanti's wasn't on the list, I guess because they didn't want a school appearing twice. We would've had the #1 and #6 seeds locked down.

Also, be sure to head over to One for the Other Thumb, where my buddy Cotter is now riping off emulating SI's Pop Culture Grid. I was a panelist for the first installment, and you can catch it at the link provided.

Huge matchup tomorrow for the Pens. Devils need to go down. In fire.

Cedrick Wilson Released. No Double Standard

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Cedrick Wilson was just released, following an incident with his girlfriend. Yes, the same girlfriend involved in this past January's armed-standoff.

Ced was charged with striking her in the face.

But wait, wasn't James Harrison arrested for the same offense...but he's still on the roster?

PFT and Mondesi's House discuss a possible double standard.

Horse Shit.

To this point, the Harrison incident was isolated. The man hadn't been in the news for similar disturbances. Ced, well, there seems to be more to his story than meets the eye.

Look at the timeline regarding Ced's recent troubles.

- Ced and girlfriend get into argument.
- Girlfriend fires gun in house, gets in standoff with police.
- Ced files Protection-From-Abuse Order against girlfriend, claiming she might kill him.
- Ced drops Protection-From-Abuse Order, provided girlfriend doesn't file one against him.
- Ced is charged with pushing girlfriend down, then punching her in the face.
- Ced is promptly released from the Steelers.

Here's the kicker. Re-read that 4th part of the timeline:

Ced drops Protection-From-Abuse Order, provided girlfriend doesn't file one against him.

Why would Cedrick Wilson be so concerned that a girlfriend he was afraid of might file a PFA against him. He was claiming to be an innocent victim of a crazy woman. Kinda fishy that he didn't want to have a PFA filed against him.

I don't know about you, but if I was a victim of abuse/torment/violent behavior, I wouldn't be trying to keep a PFA from getting filed AGAINST me.

People may ask why James Harrison still has a roster spot. I ask myself why half of the Bengals still have roster spots. Now, if there is more to James Harrison's story, then I'm all for letting him go, but the Ced incident and the Silverback incident are polar opposites.

And no, I don't condone abuse. Re-read my post about Harrison's incident if you need a refresh.

BREAKING NEWS: Pryor's Decision Leaked!

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Terrelle Pryor has made his decision.

PSaMP has the Breaking News.

Michigan and Ohio State were thrown out of the running when Pryor announced that he wanted to play collegiate basketball in addition to football.

Pryor shocked the world by announcing his decision to attend...Coppin State.

With the 20-loss team bowing out of the NCAA Tournament before they could play a legit game, and with Pryor coming off a high school state championship in the sport, Terrelle figured he'd use his talents to help a team desperate for his services. Football is now considered his "2nd sport."

"I hope to bring some changes to the Coppin State program, so we can get back to the Tourney, 20-losses or not, and win a game or two. Plus, I really want to fight some Mount Saint Mary's fans" Pryor told PSaMP.

More details as they emerge.

UPDATE: Pryor's actually going to Ohio State. In case you didn't already know, I can't stand Ohio State.

Gary Roberts Will Check Someone In Half In The Playoffs

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

(Picture ripped directly from The Pensblog. However, I'm not the asshole who wouldn't credit them)

First things first...I don't like stealing some other blog's inside jokes and using them to make myself look funny and unique. Gary Roberts (and all the myths/urban legends that go with him) is The Pensblog's baby. Several other blogs (not naming names or trying to hate on anyone specific) have referenced Gary Roberts in attempts to be funny/cool, and didn't even give credit where credit is due. I'm not piggybacking on Pensblog's ideas with this title...it is merely what I believe as a Penguins fan.

Lots of people were concerned when Roberts broke his leg. He's old, and prior to his injury, he struggled at the onset of the season. However, before he got injured, I still wasn't worried about his offensive output. Looking back on what he contributed after Ray Shero traded for him last season...he's a guy who is much more valuable in the playoffs. Even if Roberts played all 82 games this season, I would have been okay with no goals and no assists. The man is a playoff force, and frankly, anything positive he gives the team in the postseason trumps any struggles he had prior to breaking his leg.

So my excitement was unparalleled when I heard Roberts was back at (non-contact) practice. He's even practicing more of late (at the bottom of the article).

And I doubt Roberts' presence will do anything to hinder the team's ability to gel as a unit (heh-heh...does anybody wanna see MY unit?). Hell, the team knows this. Roberts hasn't been off by himself during his rehab. The dude's been with Lemieux in the owner's box for games, hanging at practices, even serving food for rich people alongside his 'mates. Its amazing that injuries have forced the team to use 37 different players this season, but the way the Penguins continually produce at a high level kills any thoughts of team chaos. Roberts was a part of that team before his injury...he'll fit right in upon his return.

Gary Roberts has had a lot of time to contemplate just how he's going to make his voice heard when he gets back. I expect to see two halves of the same person from the opposing team laying on the ice in the playoffs.

And Gary Roberts skating away with a smile.

Happy St. Patty's Day From Bobby Knight

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Bobby Knight, of all people, has decided to give a little St. Patty's Day gift to wishful-thinking Yinzers. While many an ESPN analyst went safe and picked a plethora of 1 seeds to reach the Final Four, Mr. Knight went against the grain and picked the red-hot Pitt Panthers.

And not just to reach the Final Four. He has Jamie Dixon's squad winning it all.

Holy shit.

Now, "expert" opinions on matters such as March Madness mean absolutely nothing. It baffles me how guys can make a career out of made-up words like "Bracketology." Just because some talking head picks a certain team to win a certain game...it doesn't mean its going to happen. However, it blew my mind that someone...anyone...picked the Panthers to win it all.

I mean...that used to be MY deal.

I was the asshole who picked Pitt to win it all every year, because I didn't want to be the douche who picks against his hometown team in the year that they win it all. How bad does that make you look when you picked some bullshit SEC school just because they had the flashy record/conference. I'd always pencil Pitt into the final, just to avoid circumstances such as these.

That changed last year, when I rode Acie Law's Texas A&M squad to another upsetting bracket.

And this year, I picked my field before this Bobby Knight news came out. I don't waste time analyzing matchups and all that noise. Like I said, there's no way to pinpoint what teams are going to get upset. I had my bracket filled out immediately after the field was released. I have no idea who North Carolina is playing in their first round game (the winner of a play-in game between two eventual losers), but I know the Tar Heels are moving on. I keep it simple, and stick with what I think is going to happen.

With that being said...I have Pitt losing in the Sweet 16. Didn't see that coming, didja? As good as the team has looked in the Big East Tourney, and as much as I want them (and have faith that they can) win it all, I can't be that asshole again.

My Final Four: NC, Kansas, Texas, UCLA.

Final: UCLA: 86, NC: 80.

But I hope Bobby Knight is dead-on. Click the below link to see my bracket.

PSaMP's Bracket. [Deadspin Pants Party Group via ESPN] (Can only be viewed after March 20th)

P.S. I have UConn losing in the first round. Because I can't stand Calhoun, and San Diego looks pretty athletic.

If you're feeling nostalgic today (or just want to fritter a BUNCH of time away at work), I've found complete video of Super Bowl XL, broken up into quarters. And yes, the Stones are in video 3, if that's all you care about.

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

In light of the Yankees signing Billy Crystal to play against Pittsburgh on Thursday, I'm pleading the Pirates organization to make a splash themselves.

Sign Gheorghe Muresan.

I know the Pirates front office hasn't listened to the fans in, oh, 15+ years, but now is the time to hear our voice. In Muresan's case, we'd at least get a former athlete rather than his fellow My Giant headliner, better known as the guy who brought us Analyze That.

We only need him for like a one-day contract. I'm not saying to invest an entire season on Muresan's rock-solid knees. Just enough to intimidate the hell outta the Yanks.

If Crystal lights up the Buccos, I will give up my undying allegiance to the team.

Bad Move, Silverback

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

In case you hadn't heard (probably not the case), James Harrison was arrested on assault charges after slapping a woman in the face.

I hate people who vehemently defend their local sports stars after controversy (see: New England fans, spygate) and I will not be the one to say, "Oooh...let's wait for all the details to come out before judging Silverback."

As much as I love Harrison, and the man did play this past season on meth, there is no excuse for assault on a woman. I was disgusted and appalled when I heard the news over the weekend.

He also kicked down her bathroom door and broke her phone in half with his hands (arguably, that is pretty hardass), but he obviously admitted to slapping the woman, which breaks my heart. James has been one of my favorite Steelers, and I can't stand hating on him. However, dude needs to be fined pretty heavily, or possibly suspended for a game. Bad judgement, Silverback.

The Steelers, as well as Harrison, have yet to comment on the issue and consider it a personal matter. The organization...as well as Harrison...had better acknowledge this incident and properly apologize (on Harrison's part) to prove to the fans that this will never happen again. Yes, its personal, but when you are a role model to so many young fans, you had better take responsibility if the charges are in fact true.

The only way to win back public favor is to apologize accordingly.

We're waiting, Silverback.

So Close

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

If you've noticed the counter on the upper-left-part of the page, the number of days counted is getting ridiculously close to 365. It isn't just some random assortment of numbers. The internet was officially dominated the day I started PSaMP, and the one-year anniversary is oh so close. (Actually, the one-year anniversary will fall on day 366. Stupid leap year)

Whatcha gonna get me? I want some toys, or maybe some cd's or something.

Actually, I'm letting the one-year anniversary pass by with nary a party. If you were around for my 6-month anniversary, you'll remember that it was kind of a big deal. I don't have the energy to do something like that again. At least not for awhile.

So yeah, I might make a quick post on the official anniversary day, but that's about it.

Oh, and there will be a change to the Mini Pony of the Day once year #1 comes to a close. Since I began the site writing for 2 people a day (if I was lucky), not many people saw the first few MPotDs. In the place of new, fresh pictures of cool mini ponies, I'm going to post classic MPotDs from that date one year ago. I used to type in all lower-case letters, so I'll be sure to re-post the original captions with corrected punctualization/capitalization. However, keep sending me cool mini horse pictures if you feel so inclined. Its always good to have a surplus of future MPotDs in my back pocket.

Until then...remember to join the brand-new PSaMP Facebook Group!

Yo...why do you gotta make these cool little critters strain? It isn't like the fence is that high, you rude little girl. How about meeting them halfway, or at least holding your hand inside their pen, rather than causing the awesome creatures such turmoil and angst.

Yeah, they told me about the turmoil and angst. I'm not making this up.

Mike Tomlin Will Speak At St. Vincent Graduation

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

/Wishing I was younger. Or held back.

Apparently, Mike Tomlin will be giving the commencement address at St. Vincent College this May. That makes him the keynote speaker at the 162nd commencement. For those of that don't know, I was a part of the 161st graduating class.

We got stuck with George Bush (above...from my cell phone).

Now, I got to meet Mike shortly after he was named the head coach. He was touring St. Vincent (which is Steelers training camp. If you didn't know that, you should probably leave PSaMP) merely days after his hiring. However, I'd be all about having him speak at my graduation. Lucky soon-to-be-graduating Bearcats.

The Bush announcement was controversial, to say the least. I'm guessing more people will be open to Tomlin coming to St. Vincent.

There's no "I" in mini pon...shit.

I could see how that massive cart would've been a problem for just one cool mini horse. For a team...no problem.

Should Bonds End His Career In Pittsburgh?

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Hit tip to Eddy Spaghetti for emailing me this story over the weekend.

Could Barry Bonds be making a return to the Pirates? If a certain black-opinion online magazine has its way, the pariah would finish his career in Pittsburgh for the veteran-minimum salary.

Now, the article was written by Martin Johnson, a man I can find no online information about, so I can only assume he's a random freelancer. However he does make some valid points. Bonds has made $188 million+ in the MLB throughout his career. A drastic pay-cut from the $15 mil he made last year would certainly cause the public to think differently about him (if that's even on his mind...which I doubt it is).

And Johnson has this to say as well:

In returning to Pittsburgh, Bonds would be honoring a tradition of home run champions. Hank Aaron rather famously broke Babe Ruth's record playing for the Atlanta Braves, but Hammerin' Hank spent the final two years of his career back where it began, in Milwaukee. Babe Ruth may have built Yankee Stadium as the saying goes, and he started his career with the Boston Red Sox, but he hit the last six of his 714 home runs as a member of the Boston Braves in 1935.

Well said. Yes, he's always been a Cali kid, watching his dad and uncle play, going to high school at Serra, leaving his first major-league team for serious cash in San Fran. However, with the steroids eye now firmly planted on Roger Clemens, Bonds could easily reclaim the love lost when the steroids issues started circling around his name by returning to Pittsburgh. Yeah, the Steel City isn't as forgiving as 'Frisco, but Bonds would be playing on a team that hasn't won since he last put on said team's uniform. As Ed Spags said in his email:

...honestly, at his point, I would root for Bonds in a second. I want to see a .500 season before I die...

I'm sure a number of Pirates fans feel the same...or at least share a smidgen of those thoughts. Johnson explains that a Bonds signing could set our young player development back a year or two, but its not like our development practices have been foolproof since Bonds left. What harm could another year do?

And last I checked...he's available.

You know what's awesome (aside from cool little horses)?

Finding pictures of cool little horses on other blogs.

This pic came from Helobius. I have no idea what the blog is or is about, but they have a picture of a pilgrim mini pony, and I'm totally fine with that.

The Penguins Have A Good Shot At Making The Playoffs

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Currently, our beloved Pittsburgh Penguins sit atop the Eastern Conference standings with 81 points. Now, its a shared lead, seeing as the Montreal Canadiens also have the same number of points. However, Pittsburgh owns the tiebreaker due to an extra regulation win.

With 15 games remaining until the playoffs (and only 7 points separating playoff slots 1-8), I wanted to see our chances of making the playoffs, and where we could possibly be seeded. For this info, I checked in with the only link on my blogroll with badass next to its name, Sports Club Stats.

On their Penguins page, SCS has an intricate breakdown of the different playoff-seeding possibilities for our club. For example, there is literally no way we can relinquish the top overall seed in the East if we finish 15-0 (obviously), but we also have a nearly perfect chance of staying #1 should we drop 2 games and go to 13-2. With the Devils on our heels, those are the only sure fire ways to hold onto the top seed.

Also, I wanted to see if its possible that we don't make the playoffs (scary). Our playoff chances dip below 100% should we finish the season at 6-8-1 (at the best). We miss out on the playoffs all together if we end the season on a 1-13-1 run. Personally, I like our chances.

If you've never checked out SCS, I suggest you do so at your earliest convenience. Tons of data and analysis about every professional teams' respective chances at making their league playoffs. Fun stuff.

And for you negative nellies out there (I promise never to use negative nellies again), look to the bright side, as Sid is expected to return to the ice tonight.

Lazy woman. If you're gonna exercise your beast (that didn't sound good), at least have the audacity to walk alongside it.

I'm sure the cool little horse wouldn't mind slacking off on a vehicle-of-sorts while you walked with a leash strapped to your neck/face.

But in other news...

What A Comeback

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Big ups to my blogging friend BP at AA for the video.

I hope you happened to catch Pitt's win over Syracuse yesterday. I didn't catch the entire game, but I turned it on as we were down 11 with about 2 and a half minutes remaining. Turns out, Pitt ended the game on an 18-2 run. Ridiculous.

That makes 3 crazy finishes for Pitt this season. Syracuse, Duke and West Virginia. Those videos are below.

Now, if only we could, you know, grab an early lead and put teams away. That'd be great.

Big Ben Is Rich

PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!

Big Ben just got paid.

How much, you may ask? How about 8 years and $102 big ones. $36 mil is guaranteed.

Jay Glazer first reported that the deal was iminent, but the details finally emerged.

Biggest contract in Steelers history? Oh, hell yes.

The Steelers are also close to signing Mewelde Moore. That might overshadow the Ben deal.

And I have no idea why The Last Supper is hanging out behind Uncle Scrooge. So don't ask.

UPDATE: Moore signed for 3 years. No money details are out there, but I'll update when I find out.

UPDATE #2: 3 years/$4.95 mil for Moore. Big Ben, consider yourself overshadowed.
