ESPN Sucks At Covering Hockey
PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!
Strugglin'.
Espn.com has had its share of realtime stats troubles, but this is just getting ridiculous.
Here is a screenshot from 9:51 P.M. on Friday night ( my life is mucho exciting), roughly 20+ minutes after the completion of the Pens/Canes game. According to Espn.com, only 2 minutes and 6 seconds has gone by in the game, and the puck currently sits in the crowd. As you can see through my MS Painting (click on the picture for a bigger, clearer view), I'm concerned as to why the crowd won't give the puck back. I've also highlighted the actual time of night, which drastically conflicts with Espn's take on the game.
I know tWWL is trying to kill hockey, but this is just ridiculous. And no, I wasn't relying on the big E for game coverage. I watched it with my eyes on the godsend that is FSN Pittsburgh. I only came across this tidbit through the comments section of Pensblog. If you click on the pic, you can see that I've got Pensblog opened as well.
We don't need no steenking Espn hockey coverage. Give me FSN Pittsburgh and Pensblog all night.
P.S. Ducks are going down tomorrow.

You put your back-left hoof in.
You put your back-left hoof out.
You put your back-left hoof in, and you shake it all about.
You do the hokey pokey and you turn yourself around. That's what it's all about...

This dude froze up at the put your back-left hoof out part. Poor guy.

Its Friday, so indulge my out-of-'Burgh sports pleasures. I first saw this video via Deadspin, and it absolutely killed me. The nightmare bunny tops it all off. If you're feeling lazy or just need a solid laugh, read the comments from the Deadspin link. That made my week. Period.

Visitor of the Week: Oktoberfest
PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!
This week, I'm proud to give you the best of the best. I can't believe I was able to pick just one visitor. I feel confused.
To be fair, multiple visitors used this same search query, so this visitor from the 'Burgh represents for so many others.
"Mike Tomlin badass." Those three words seem to go rather well together. I mean, its simple, to the point, and encompasses all that is Tomlin. I honestly can't think of another word to replace badass that would completely sum up Iron Mike.
Cool? Too simple.
Amazing? Too generic.
Fabulous? Too Brady Quinn-ish.
Kickass? Yeah that would probably work, too.
So badass pretty much takes the cake. That, or any other word that includes _ass. Like kickass...or hardass. But not dumbass. Definitely not dumbass.

This Is The Reason That Text Messaging Was Invented

If you aren't excited about the upcoming Pens season, you should check your pulse.
Mad love goes to Michael Holovak at the Duquesne Duke for digging up this scoop.
Have trouble finding student rush tickets last season? You probably weren't alone. The quick success of Sid and Co. caused many a sellout at the 'Gloo, and ice-popped kids struggled to get their hands on the $20 Student Rush tix.
Because of this problem, the Pens have created a new lottery-style Student Rush program. Holovak, via Penguins.com, says:
...games on pace to sell out will have a lottery for 200 Student Rush tickets via text message within 48 hours of the game and 100 lottery winners will then be given a password to purchase up to two student rush tickets on ticketmaster.com.
Texting “RUSH” to 32623 will sign you up for the alerts.
So why are tickets being distributed this way? To borrow a tagline from the Penguins, it’s an evolution.
"We had to adjust for the times,” said Tom McMillan, Vice President of Communications for the Penguins. “Last year we just alerted students if we had a high, medium or low inventory of Student Rush tickets. As attendance grew it became difficult to slot tickets for students.”
Word.
I know most of you probably thought text messaging was only good for goofy one-liners sent to friends, scam ringtone subscriptions or making your voice heard on the flavor of the month reality show.
Turns out, the Penguins have turned text messaging into a necessity for all hopeful young Pens-watchers.
If games aren't going to sell out (doubtful), standard student rush procedures stay in place. Go to the 'Gloo with your student I.D. and your Andrew Jackson.
UPDATE: One final notice, Sid's Alternative Captains were named. Sergei Gonchar, Mark Recchi and Gary Roberts will all don the A. Perfect trio.

Best. Penguins. Preview. Ever.
PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!
Don't care who you are, Wallace and Gromit will kick your ass.
Back to the point, Pensblog absolutely dominated their Penguins season preview. I nearly cried.
Even if you don't read Pensblog (and if you don't, you suck), any season preview means the season is about to start. I'm expecting big things from Sid and Co. this season. Every hockey "expert" can go eat me with their New York Ranger-bandwagon-jump-on-ing (sorry, that was the best I could do). Ooooh...they got Chris Drury, they should be the favorite to win the East. Bullshit. Last I checked, we still have the reigning league MVP (and Gary Roberts...and Georges Laraque). Sure, Drury makes the Rangers better, but its sick how the "experts' are already foaming at the mouth over New York.
Last I checked, they had the bottom-rung Staal brother. Pens have Jordan "Upped My Cred By Getting Arrested" Staal. End of argument.
Those of you who haven't been around these parts since PSaMP was founded (all of you) don't know that the Penguins were the muse for this blog. PSaMP was born out of my overflowing emotions as the team announced that they wouldn't be leaving Pittsburgh. That caused me to create this blog and write the first (shitty) post. And during those formative times, all I covered was the Pens. Pirates season hadn't started, the Steelers were a distant memory, and the massive strides made by Sid and Co. filled my every thought.
Now, with the '07-'08 season about to start, all I can do is bow to Pensblog for giving such an amazing preview. Well done.

Its Time For A Big Boy Wallet
PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!
I just finished watching Cavemen, the new ABC sitcom based around those hilarious Geico commercials. I gotta say, the show has some potential.
The show itself wasn't bad (it wasn't great either), but Jeffrey Daniel Phillips, who plays Maurice (the original, Roast duck with the mango salsa caveman) absolutely steals every scene he's in. He isn't one of the main characters, but every one of his lines were perfect.
However, the dude from those Raisin Bran Crunch commercials, where the employee eating the cereal can't here his boss, plays one of the main cavemen. He's the employee in the commercial, and I can't get his face outta my mind when I see him in this show. Obvious downer, but Maurice and fellow caveman Nick pick the show right back up. If you missed it, I suggest tuning in next week.
I'll probably give the show another watch. You should, too.
How bout you give daddy a couple travies...

Meet Tootsie, the hermaphrodite mini pony.
Tootsie was a confused little horse (obviously), and was shunned by other mini ponies until (s)he met Derek, a donkey. Derek befriended the befuddled beast, and all is well in Tootsie's world.
Many thanks to my sister for emailing me this one-of-a-kind story. No, not Sheena Beaston. This came from my oldest sister, Kate.
Be sure to visit Kate's Myspace (or this site as well). She's an NYC musician, and the page has tons of stellar songs for you to check out. Or, if you find yourself in Brooklyn on October 5th, go to her show at Pete's Candy Store.
I know I'm biased by blood, but Kate's music is worth checking out. Visit her site. Listen to her music with your ears.

Where'd Yinz Go?
PSAMP HAS MOVED! CLICK HERE TO GET TO THE BRAND NEW SITE! NOW!![]()

After a massive hiatus, Where'd Yinz Go? returns with everyone's favorite former Pirate, Adam Hyzdu!
The first installment found what Derek Bell was up to, now its time to see where good ole Adam Hyzdu has been.
Who can forget the offensive sparkplug that Hyzdu was? I mean, in four season with the Buccos (wow, he was really here that long?), Hyzdu managed an impressive 18 home runs, 55 RBIs, 0 triples and 87 stikeouts! I mean, those numbers held the team together. Hyzdu managed to put up Pirate-like numbers so that the team could keep selling at the trade deadline while unloading guys who could become stars elsewhere. In other words, he was Dave Littlefield's best friend.
I don't know why we ever got rid of Hyzdu. From 2000-2003, he was the straw that stirred the drink (no, I wasn't a The Bronx is Burning watcher).
So Adam Hyzdu, Where'd Yinz Go?
Brace yourselves, Buccos fans. Immediately following his time in the 'Burgh, Hyzdu managed to make it onto the Boston Red Sox squad and earned himself a World Series ring. Compose yourselves and read that again. He of the lifetime .229 batting average has himself a World Series ring. ADAM HYZDU lucked himself onto a Boston Red Sox team that just so happened to win a World Series for the first time in 86 years. How does that happen? That is no coincidence.
Hyzdu put 'em over the top. If he would stayed in the Steel City, not only would the consecutive losing season streak be over, but the city could celebrate a baseball championship.
Boston owes us a debt of gratitude for parting ways with Hyzdu's greatness. I'm expecting a very lopsided deal with the Beantown this offseason that greatly benefits the 'Burgh.
Now please excuse me. I'm gonna go cry.

Cool ribbons and trophy.
This picture is copyrighted, so I'll at least give credit to where I found it. This site here says the horse's name is Polly. Polly is obviously award-worthy. Killer.
