Mario Lemieux, Tony Fernandez and Bea Arthur Made the Best PSA Ever

When else would you be able to see Mario Lemieux, Tony Fernandez AND Bea Arthur in a commercial together? They really don't make PSAs like they used to.

I'm just shocked that Mario and Tony were both taller than Bea Arthur. The only Bea Arthur reference I have is from my years of watching Golden Girls (great stuff) with my grandma back in the day, and I woulda just guessed that she would tower over both Lemieux and Fernandez like she did to everyone else on that show.

God, the 80s were awesome.

Curiosity…scared the shit out of the cat.

I’m a huge animal agitator, so I know the joy this dude must feel. Their brains only comprehend so much, and we, as humans, will try and exert our mental superiority when given the chance. As Atmosphere says about our pets:

“It’s eat, sleep, f**k, and self defense. So straight, you can set your clocks and place bets.”

That pretty much sums up the animal experience. Fortunately for us, one of those instincts isn’t “Be aware of the remote-controlled Steelers truck.” The cat didn’t make a complete ass out of itself, so it has that going. At least it didn’t crash into a wall. Or get dominated by a ceiling fan.

Yeah, this is a weak post, but I told you about that yesterday. I’m wrapping up my interview, and while it won’t be posted until early next week, you should take time to guess who the subject is. There have already been some solid guesses.

This was on Deadspin two days ago, but I hadn't found the time to post it here. I was too busy worrying about Ryan Mundy, watching Steelers fans tackle the Octa-Bong and resting on my birthday laurels.

Still, this is a typical skateboarder/disaster video that one would typically find in Ufford's work. However, the setting for the epic head-slam is what gets me. Don't focus on the skateboarder, and you'll see that the kid is all up on the North Shore, trying to kill the area around the Carnegie Science Center and Heinz Field.

Now, I've never been much of a skateboarder. I tried as a kid, but falling sucks way too much, so I gave it up after two boards and countless bruises. I gotta say, though, even if I could thrash with the best of them, the mere sight of Heinz Field would distract me long enough in mid-air to cause extensive damage to the back of my skull as well.

Gah, that's a rough video. I hate skateboard-wreck videos, especially back in the first installment of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for original Playstation when you unlocked the extra highlight reels, only to be ambushed by the spot clips of dude's breaking their ankles. I'm gonna vom just thinking about it.

Playoff BTM/Beard Update

The Penguins season is over. What does that mean for all the facial hair that blew up during the playoffs?

Well, according to the above picture, Sid is still in love with his Playoff BTM. The rest of that junk around his ears and all is gone, but the 'stache is still in place. He should keep it, a la Jason Giambi.

As for playoff beards, I'm sad to see my good buddy Ed Spags shave his beard. It was truly epic. Video evidence is below.

Man, I don't even know what to make of this.

It mighta made more sense if Barry Bonds was still on the Giants. OR if they used any other current baseball player who has been linked to 'roids (LoDuca, Pettitte, Giambi, Guillen...I could go on if you'd like).

However, I can't pass up the opportunity to post random Youtube vids that remotely mention any Pittsburgh sports team.

I don't quite have the energy to offer my opinions on anything right now. I had (perhaps) too much fun last night, overslept...rushed to work...and am exhausted.

Sure, I could talk about the Penguins clinching a playoff berth, or continue the discussion of Dan Rooney's poorly-worded defense of James Harrison, or the fact that the Pirates will begin their season without major free-agent B.K. Kim.

Instead, enjoy this video. It has nothing to do with anything, save for the fact that the band's name is Steeler. I never heard of this "band" before. I never want to hear of it again.

Thumbwrestlers Rule

Indulge me on this slow Friday. I mean, come on...its a leap year/day, for cryin' out loud.

I came across Mental_Floss' WWF Superstars Quiz and started thinking about Thumbwrestlers. There's no adequate video of these amazing toys on the Youtubes, but I found this site. They actually had the commercial to download, so I embedded it using the awful fantastic Blogger video embedder.

I know for a fact I had Big John Studd and Hillbilly Jim. Nothing sick about sticking your thumb into a hole just above a rubber wrestler's ass.

Muscle Mario

I wanted to test out Blogger's video uploading gadget, since I haven't used it before. I usually stick to the ultra-easy embedded html from sites like Youtube. However, I kept feeling like I needed to experience the standard Blogger video player. I looked for random Pittsburgh sports-related videos on Limewire, and downloaded one titled "Mario Lemieux Fights." I have no problem with that. Sure, you can find this video on Youtube, but the commentary in this one is spot on. Enjoy my first foray into Blogger's generic-ass vid player. Lemieux destroyed Gary Lupul.
